OPTIMIZATION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION THROUGH LOAD SHIFTING AT THE SANTA CLARA SUBSTATION IN MANTA, ECUADOR

Abstract

Energy efficiency involves optimizing energy consumption to achieve optimal levels of comfort and service. This is achieved by adjusting electrical consumption according to the actual needs of users or implementing mechanisms to save energy and prevent losses during the process. The objective of this study is to evaluate load shifting as an energy efficiency strategy to reduce consumption during peak hours in four specific circuits of feeder 31 in the Santa Clara sector, near Substation Manta 3. The study is conducted through a field and documentary research design, with quantitative and qualitative analysis. Techniques such as documentary and content analysis, as well as surveys, are employed. Data collection is carried out through bibliographic and institutional sources, along with the administration of questionnaires to a sample of 180 customers in the Santa Clara sector. The information obtained allows characterizing the load profile of users in the area, followed by three simulations carried out in the PVSOL software. The study results are positive; by shifting loads to another schedule, it is possible to reduce energy consumption during peak hours, leading to alleviating the burden on the distribution network, reducing up to 50% and 75% of the total demand during peak hours. In conclusion, the feasibility of applying this proposed strategy to reduce electricity consumption and alleviate network saturation is confirmed.
