Abstract

This research analyzed the contribution of the Eloy Alfaro Urban Park, located in the canton of Jipijapa, to ecosystem services and its influence on community social cohesion. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical scope under a case study design. A structured survey was administered to a sample of 196 regular park users to assess aspects related to environmental regulation, well-being, recreation, social interaction, and citizen participation. The results revealed a highly favorable perception of the environmental benefits provided by the park. Most participants recognized its contribution to improving air quality, reducing urban heat, promoting contact with nature, and enhancing environmental well-being, highlighting its importance as green infrastructure for the sustainability of the canton. Likewise, the findings showed that the park serves as a space for recreation, relaxation, and social interaction, fostering relationships among people of different age groups, strengthening family and community ties, and promoting a sense of community belonging. However, although there is a high level of awareness regarding the importance of preserving this public space, citizen participation in maintenance and conservation activities remains limited. In conclusion, the Eloy Alfaro Urban Park plays a fundamental role in providing ecosystem services and strengthening social cohesion. Therefore, it is recommended to promote environmental education strategies and community participation initiatives to ensure its conservation and sustainable management.
